IMPERMANENCE

An Invitation to Open to the Duality of Life

This body of work explores the cycles of life and death, the experience of both, and how within each moment the two coexist in duality. On both an individual and collective level, we cling to the things that bring us pleasure, whilst push away and think something must be wrong when things are falling apart. However, if we were to take some time to examine the nature of our existence, we would see that there is a constant flow between the two. Nothing remains the same. All things are constantly changing, and when they do they travel through cycles of life and death. It is perfectly normal to experience them both, so why do we shy away from confronting death? What would it be like to embrace them both? To see that within each moment there is impermanence, an inherent duality that pervades everything? In times of struggle we would come to know that ‘this too shall pass’, and in times of joy we would deepen our appreciation. The works in this exhibition bring these concepts into an experience that acts as a reminder that the duality of life and death exists in each and every moment.
